I have spent the better half of most of my life reading information on different types of fitness and health programs and diets. Not only that but I have put my body to the test as well. Becoming a human guinea pig, spending a lot of money on internet tips and tricks. At first I was interested in gaining muscle, but recently I have found something else that is more important and will actually create the benefit of gaining muscle as well. What is it you ask? Optimum Health!!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I like use the analogy of a car when talking about the body. The body is an amazing machine far more complex than a car. But my brother would NEVER put anything less then premium grade fuel in his car. So why should you be putting anything less than premium grade FOOD in your body? Well, the answer is obvious. With all the hype about this and that out there, and the internet and magazines and health food stores pawning products it is impossible to even know what is premium grade food. As you have heard over and over throughout your time on this planet, you are what you eat!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If they sell it in the grocery store it must be good for you right? This couldn't be more wrong and the proof of this couldn't be more obvious. We live in an increasingly toxic world  that gets more toxic each and every day. Now more than ever, people need to learn about the alkaline diet. Obesity, heart disease, cancers, diabetes, are on the rise like never before in history. As world becomes more polluted and we stray further and further from using"natural" fuel ,  its inhabitants get increasingly sick. So almost 100 years. Unbelievable. The funny thing is I am reading "Fast Food Nation" right now, and the rise of the fast food empire probably has a similar graph in terms of their revenue.  Heart Disease is just one example of many "diseases" that are on the rise in America today. Check out this graph below (click graph to enlarge) showing amount of new cases of cancers. Talk about a disease that is just absolutely blowing up. Well in doing my own research,  I came across the Alkaline Diet promoted originally by Dr. Robert Young. Young developed what he calls the "ph miracle". It is essentially the same thing as the alkaline diet&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;* The Human Body is Alkaline by Design and acidic by function&lt;br /&gt;* If we maintain this alkaline design of our body through a alkaline lifestyle and diet we can prevent ALL SICKNESS and Disease&lt;br /&gt;* For the cure of all disease will not be found in its treatment but in its prevention&lt;br /&gt;                                                                                                                                 -Dr. Robert Young&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mr. Young goes on to say how all disease is a result of acid building up in the body and how your body puts on fat as a way to absorb this acid. Fat is coping mechanism of the body to absorb acid. One of the many side-benefits of the alkaline diet is fat loss. I can vouch for that. He also goes on to state that buildup of acid is the cause for pretty much all disease. Cancer, arthritis, heart-disease,Crohns Disease, Gout, acid-reflux, you name it. The alkaline diet has been shown to relieve if not prevent entirely ALL these so called diseases.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The problem I ran into was finding a resource to tell me how to go about starting the alkaline diet. What should I eat what should I not eat. What do I need more of what do I need less of. I couldn't find alkaline diet recipes. After much research, I was able to piece together some idea of what to eat but still was flying at the seat of my pants and didn't want to go out and purchase another book! There are so many health benefits to the alkaline diet that I often forget about the reason most people go on a diet and that is weight loss.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There are lots of people experiencing significant weight loss on the alkaline diet. The best thing about it is you can eat as much as you want. Many dieters are wondering how this is possible. How can the alkaline diet help me lose weight eating as much as I want? To be honest, it doesn't seem possible. The body does not like to be in an acid state. So lets say you drink a soda. I am not sure if you are aware of this or not, but a soft drink has a ph of 2.5. This is HIGHLY acidic. I can't believe people put this stuff in their body. Your body is designed to maintain an alkaline ph balance. It has built in coping mechanisms so  you can drink a soda and not die. One of these many mechanisms is body fat.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The human body uses fat to neutralize acid. The more acidic  foods you eat the more body fat is needed to cope with this and maintain an alkaline ph balance. Now imagine that you start eating alkaline foods, your body is going to have no reason to keep all the fat. Your body knows that fat is unhealthy. It will begin to quickly assimilate the fat. This is when you begin to shed fat like never before. There are numerous other things that contribute to the alkaline diet weight loss as well. Your body insulin resistance goes up. You will be eating less calories because you won't be eating calorie dense foods. The diet contains little or no saturated and trans fats. The increased energy will cause you to be more active whether you want to  or not.  I have read stories of people losing as much as 50 lbs in two months on the alkaline diet.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Weight loss is definitely a side effect of the alkaline diet, but in comparison to the other health benefits you will feel it will seem minor. The body does this using sodium bicarbonate or Baking Soda. The body uses sodium bicarbonate to neutralize acids within your body. Dr. Young says that the whole process of digestion is in fact a process of alkalizing the food so that the body can use it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There are many alkalizing foods recommended for the alkaline diet. I have created a list of foods that I consider to be super foods when it comes to alkalizing the body. If you started eating just these foods for 30 days you would feel in amazing change take place within your body.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Greens&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Greens are some of the best alkalizing foods. The darker the green the better. Greens like spinach, kale, chard, collard, and dandelion are going to be some of the most alkalizing foods. The more you eat the better you will look and feel on the alkaline diet.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Grasses&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Wheat grass juice is far and away one of the most alkalizing foods for the alkaline diet. This stuff is literally jam packed with nutrients. On a molecular level, wheat grass is almost IDENTICAL to the human blood. That just blows my mind. Wheat grass contains all 8 essential amino acids. It contains 13 non-essential amino acids as well. It is jam packed with vitamins,minerals,chlorophyll and phytonutrients. If you are looking for alkalizing foods for the alkaline diet, look no further. Other grasses have similar benefits barley. Some other grasses I would recommend:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;-barley grass&lt;br /&gt;-dog grass&lt;br /&gt;-alfalfa grass&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Sprouts&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When I first started the alkaline diet I was on a tight budget and couldn't afford a lot of food. I started sprouting my own sprouts to make up more food in my diet. Sprouts are another valuable alkalizing food on alkaline diet. They are biogenic which means that the energy and strength of the plant growing from a seed to a sprout is transfered to the human body when you consume them. Sprouts can be easily grown and added to your salads for the alkaline diet. Using sprouting jars you can easily grow a ton of sprouts in as little as 5-7 days. My personal favorites are broccoli and alfalfa sprouts. I am also partial to mung bean sprouts. Broccoli sprouts are a little spicy this is why I like them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Water&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Water, water, water, and then more water. Drinking lots of water is extremely good for you and can also help in alkalizing the body. I did a test recently. I went to a natural stream near my house at a high elevation. I filled up a water bottle. I came home and tested the PH of the water. It was extremely alkaline water. I then proceeded to test the PH of the water I normally drink which is reverse osmosis water from a local water company. This water was acidic. Your body is 3/4 water. Make sure that you use quality alkaline water.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I mainly consume salads made from spinach, kale, and chard. I will share with you soon when I post my Alkaline Recipes post. The idea behind this is that the liquid form of these foods is  easily assimilated by the body and the body rapidly uptakes the nutrients. One of the recipes for the alkaline diet is as follows:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;1st recipe for the alkaline diet: Green Smoothie&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1 Cup of Good Water: alkaline water if available(fresh spring water is typically alkaline)&lt;br /&gt;1 cup of organic blueberries&lt;br /&gt;2 large unripe bananas&lt;br /&gt;2handfuls of spinach,kale, chard, or some dark green leafy vegetable&lt;br /&gt;seaweed-arame, kelp, dulse(I use a little of all three)&lt;br /&gt;1 shot of wheat grass juice(I don't add the wheat grass to my drink I like to take it alone-also I hold it in my mouth under my tongue for 30secs. I read that this allows the amino acids to enter directly into your blood stream)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;combine the ingredients in a blender with some ice cubes. Mix thoroughly, and enjoy. A delicious start to your list of recipes for the alkaline diet, this smoothie will supercharge your day. Remember to chew your smoothie. This is an important part of the alkalizing process.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The next of the recipes for the alkaline diet is my personal favorite. It is very simple to make and quite tasty.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;2nd recipe for the alkaline diet: Spring Salad&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Organic Spring Salad Mix&lt;br /&gt;Add whatever greens you like (kale, chard, spinach, and dandelion are my personal favorite as well as the most alkalizing)&lt;br /&gt;cucumbers(cucumbers are great for your skin)&lt;br /&gt;onions&lt;br /&gt;Summer black radishes&lt;br /&gt;sprouts of your choice (i.e. mung beans, lentils, alfalfa, broccoli)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Toss the salad how you like and use this dressing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Olive oil&lt;br /&gt;fresh squeezed lemon juice&lt;br /&gt;table spoon sea salt&lt;br /&gt;dried crushed basil&lt;br /&gt;dried crushed oregano&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The amounts for the above recipe can be adjusted to your liking. The dressing tastes best when it is allowed to sit a day before you use it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Both of these recipes for the alkaline diet are extremely alkalizing. I generally have a shake every day for breakfast. I will drink it slowly for about 3 hours. I will usually have a snack of raw pumpkin seeds. Then I will have a large salad for lunch and another for dinner. This may seem pretty bland to most folks. There are tons of really tasty recipes for the alkaline diet, but I prefer to keep it simple.
